across these works, the body and its environment are continuously recomposing and (re)constituting themselves in a cyclical relationship to the landscape. Davies explores the porous boundaries between bodies—human, plant, mineral—and the ecosystems they inhabit. The viewer is invited into the rhythms of consumption and decay, into the intimate thresholds where the body—both their own and others—dissolves into earth, stone, and memory. Desire lingers in the soil, clings to skin, embeds itself in the grain of rock. Seeking out the points of convergence where memory, sensation, and longing fuse into form; where the body's edges blur. The stone body, the earth body, the plant body.&nbsp; The body is both archive and animal, both eater and offering. Working with materials like latex, clay, soil, and leaves, the artist engages in a tactile dialogue with the land; pressing, molding, absorbing. Her processes echo frottage: both the artistic technique of rubbing surface textures into visibility, and the erotic tension of bodies brushing in close proximity. These dual meanings resonate through the work, where touch becomes a site of translation, transference, and transformation 35mm photography, audio recordings and text function as temporal imprints; fragments of breath, gesture, and landscape, tracing moments of contact between the body and the more-than-human world. The artist invites viewers to consider the tender violence of aliveness, to dwell in the fertile tensions between growth and rot, pleasure and entropy. We are all eating and being eaten. 'Breathing Space, Moving Space, Resting Space' is a three part living installation connecting us to our shared breath through care, reflection and emergence. Breathing Space - invites us to consider our collective grief – human and more-than-human. You are invited to leave memories and messages with the moss which will be digested into an audio score. Mosses are ancient prehistoric beings, with histories dating back to 450 million years. Moss have survived and thrived through severe climate changes, from ice-ages to heat waves. What can learn from the moss, so that we too might thrive within collapse. How can we enter into a dialogue with the moss? How can we co-create new spaces of emergence? Moss acts as one of the best air filtration systems in existence, consuming pollutants, carbon and fine dust particles and breathing out oxygen. In this work the moss is an active agent in both filtering the air and our personal reflections - creating a breathing space for human and non-human refuge. Moving Space - is an audio guided walk taking us through the city between the two sites, shifting our view to a more-than-human perspective, reorienting our experience of the cityscape. Resting Space - is a place for resting and dreaming of the future of this place, a field of native violets, an earth intervention. Viewers will be invited to rest in the patch of flowers. A space for resting, listening and considering future visions and imaginations of this place. Community will also be invited into a relationship of care, through a public planting process and invitation to water the flowers over the installation period.&nbsp; Community members were invited to leave messages with the mosses through a digital platform here. This work was is a site responsive artwork made collaboratively by various species of mosses, native violets and lead artist Merinda Davies and sound artist Mitch King.&nbsp; <img width="1000" Using plant species native to the region, the forest will become a ‘paradise’ people can enjoy in Surfers. A soundscape created for the forest will filter through speakers –&nbsp; tones and sounds similar to the electric pulse language of the trees. Artists in the exhibition address how plants are owned, displayed, cultivated, and related to by contemporary culture. They examine our personal relationships with plants and how these pursuits serve aesthetic and symbolic functions beyond their ecological value. This includes the use of plants as artistic material, their objectification and commercialisation, their use as an experiential encounter with ‘nature’, and their cultivation as a form of cultural resilience. Described by the artist as a “living, breathing, growing artwork”, the project coalesces through archival and field research, experiential events and conversations, and a constant cultivation of seedlings that are both material and collaborator in this experimental public art project.Remembering Forward, 2022 is a site-specific installation drawing on various strands of this broader ongoing project. Seeds collected by the artist in West End are embedded in the installation, creating a stylised version of Davies’ studio turned plant nursery. To quote David George Haskell, author of The Songs of Trees: Stories from Nature's Great Connectors “Survival increases when saplings are embedded within the human social network. A tree planted by its human neighbours will live longer than one placed by an anonymous contractor.
